Below I am going to share my own tips for the perfect red lip. I love a red lip. It is so old Hollywood glamour, a period of decadence, opulence and class that I wish would come back to stay. Le Sigh. Anyway I will show you how to do a perfect red lip below the break.
- Start with soft, smooth lips. If you are experiencing chapped lips use a dry toothbrush and going in a small circular motion begin to buff your lips. Do not do so too hard or you may cause your lips to become irritated.
- Choose a shade of red that matches your skin tone. Unsure you can do one of two things; seek the advice of a friend or someone close to you or you can go to the beauty counter at a department store or to a beauty specialty store like Sephora or Ulta and ask for advice. If you decide to go with option one, here is a simple break down of skin tone and red lip color recommendation. For a more precise match I would highly recommend the second option. Fair to medium fair-cherry red Medium fair to medium- fire engine red Medium dark to dark-deep reds
- Chose a lip liner that is one shade darker than your lip color. You can apply lip liner before or after applying your lip color, however I find it best to apply it before I apply my lip color. Also fill you lips in with your lip liner. When your lip color wears off the lip liner will give the affect of still having the lip color on until you are able to reapply. Side Note: IF YOU ARE USING A 8- OR 24- LIP COLOR THEN YOU CAN SKIP FILLING YOUR LIPS IN WITH LIP LINER.
- When applying your lip color use a lip brush for smooth and precise application.
- Remember to blot your lips on a tissue or napkin that will not leave behind lint pieces.
