Singer
Mariah Carey, 42 has been tapped as the newest celeb to partner with nail
lacquer giant OPI.
Suzi
Weiss-Fischmann, executive vice president and artistic director of OPI spoke on
the partnership in WWD
saying:
"Nails are part of her personality. I
really have always looked for celebrities for whom nails are very important,
and it is not something you just Photoshop on a picture. She was very much part
of the color selection….She’s classic, but she can
be edgy at certain times. She’s very elegant….It appeals to me also that she’s
a mom. She’s a working woman and then she has this very glitzy, glamour side to
her."
OPI
will release two collections one eight shade collection in January of 2013 and
a second collection later that year.
Carey
will join a list of popular celebs that have released polish collections with
the equally popular nail brand, including: the Kardashians, Serena Williams,
Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry.
Since
OPI names the polish colors with the celebs brand in mind, speculation is that
the colors will be named after Carey’s most popular hits. In the lead are
‘Glitter’, ‘Rainbow’ and ‘Butterfly’.
We
at joan & ross would like to drum up some titles we’d like them to play
with as well: ‘Always Be My Baby’, ‘Obsessed’, ‘One Sweet Day’, and to pay
homage to her beautiful one-year-old twins, ‘Dem Babies’ (a name Carey and
husband affectionately refer to their twins).
Can
you think of possible names for the collections?
Solange
Knowles for Madewell
Retailer
Madewell, sister company to J.Crew, had announced Solange Knowles as the newest
face of its autumn/winter 2012-13 campaign. Is there anything this woman can’t
do?
Solange
got her start as a backup dancer for Destiny’s Child, then went on to become a
singer, then mommy; then DJ; then model when she signed with Next Models in
January of this year. .
This
is Solange's first major contract with a fashion brand. Madewell had this to
say about Solange: “No one pulls off style quite like Solange.”
So
true, we here at joan & ross love the risks she takes and her ability to
break mode and be an original.
Solange’s
past modeling gigs have included modeling for Rimmel cosmetics and Carol’s
Daughter’s Monoi Collection and strutting her stuff for an Alberta Ferretti Limited
Edition fashion show.
Pink for COVERGIRL
Pink confirmed Monday, August 6th that she is indeed
the newest face of COVERGIRL cosmetics. It was sealed with a press conference
later that week in which the singer unveiled the above picture which will
appear in print ads this fall.
“With the signing of Pink,
COVERGIRL is celebrating 'Beauty with an Edge' and who better to deliver that
message than someone who embodies art and attitude," according to a
release issued by COVERGIRL. "Pink and COVERGIRL are looking to inspire women
to celebrate their individuality and never settle for a single beauty
standard."
It appears to be a great time in the singer’s life. Pink gave
birth to daughter Willow 14 months ago and is on the verge of releasing her
first album in 4 years.
Remembering a day when supermodels were the faces of COVERGIRLS
cosmetics, we love their new philosophy of using celebs with down-to-earth,
every woman characteristics.
Pink joins the likes of Queen Latifah, Drew Barrymore, Ellen
DeGeneres, Sofia Vergara and Taylor Swift as current faces of the brand.
